  • Here's the sad pics from Ivan

Here's my Dad's Grand Banks 42 Classic wooden trawler that he has worked on for the last seven years. Since we anchored across from his house during Ivan, he watched her go down. I'm glad I didn't see it, but it was even worse spending the weekend at the marina getting all the personal stuff out. He was able to salvage the awards he received from the wooden boat shows, which was never less then second place and normally first.

There wasn't any damage to the hull, but we found that two of the three stern deck hatches were gone and we believe it took on more water than the three bilge pumps could handle.

BoatUS will tow her to Destin and auction her off. She's down but not out. I'm sure she will be back cruising one day.

Sorry to see a beautiful boat go to waste like that. Your dad isn't interested in bringing her back to life?

No. He bought a 43 Hatteras last Fall and has been trying to sell this one since then. If it was his only boat then, he probably would save her as she is structurally sound. After watching her sink that close to the house and not being able to do anything about it, I think he is just ready to move on.
