    Thanks for the input. I have been happy with my 140 four stroke on the 1977 mako 221 I now have, but sounds like the mako 231 needs more horses. FYI - I looked at the suzuki website and they claim the attached performance characteristics of a single 140 hp on a 23 foot brand x boat (maritime patriot). Is it the design and/or the weight of the mako that needs the larger engine(s)?

      It shows the deadrise at 14deg.

      Less deadrise needs less Hp.

      More deadrise needs more Hp.

      The test boat was loaded very lite. Weight is going to make alot of diffrence too.

      Gasoline weighs just over 7lbs per gal.

      The Patriot has a 83gal tank X 7=581lbs

      The Mako has a 160gal tank X 7=1120lbs
