  • Info on used Mako

I purchased a used Mako 17 and was not able to find out how old this boat was from the seller. I have the serial number which is: 112380973-M172 and was wondering if anyone could give me that info. I am restoring this boat and would appreciate any info on bow and console doors. The ones on my boat look like varnished plywood and I would like to replace them with doors like were on original boat.

According to the serial number it is a 1973.

      Sonny's correct, it's a 1973 hull.

As far as replacing the hatch doors, it will be tough to find original teak -- though I'm not sure what Mako used back in '73.

It will be almost impossible to find louvered doors made out of teak -- they were bought up quickly once Mako transitioned to Starboard in the early 90's.

One option would be to find someone with 17' Mako that still had the doors, and make a copy. That would be a lot of work -- but if you're handy with woodworking, it should not be too tough.

      Good Luck,
