  • Hull ID Plate

The Hull ID Plate on my 1978 Mako 20 is complete oxidized and unreadable. How do I get a replacement plate?

Contact your local police/ marine unit. They should be able to get a new one for you or they can reHIN it. Theres some paperwork that will have to be filled out.

On your transom your HIN # should be stamped into the gel coat. They can use that to match to your title.

    Good luck.

There is a small aluminum plate on the transom, starboard side, but it is unreadable. I've looked around, but don't see it anywhere else.

The HIN on my title has 2 MRK13

this doesn't sound like anything I've seen.

The hidden HIN# are some times difficult to find. You can start by the transom on the port side under the Gunnels, inside the bilge area , inside any hatches.

Boat manufacturers are allowed to put them anywhere.

I think all boats built after 1972 have hidden HIN #.

The hidden HIN# will not be on a plate. Its going to be stamped into the boat.
