For those coming from out of town, please be aware that the Destin pass can be a VERY dangerous pass. The pass is not very wide and when there is an outgoing tide and incoming sea (opposing forces) the waves stack up.
The Coast Guard actually CLOSED the pass late last week as four boats become distressed in the pass with two sinking.
I have never recalled the pass being closed, but it was the perfect combination of wind and wave direction to make the waves break all the way across the pass and in quite far. The above boat taht capsized, did so when the owner tried to turn around in the pass and was caught by a breaking wave - do NOT do this! Once committed, stay committed until you know it is safe to change course.
I am sure David will go over safety at the Captains meeting, but for those that can't make it, be careful.
Also the pass is NO place to swim. Two people have drowned in the pass this year already.
Come down, enjoy the area, and be safe.....
