  • Official Suggestion/Idea Bucket For 2011 Funament

Well I have some ideas I am thinking about for the upcoming funament. I would like to hear any suggestions or ideas you may have as we begin planning.

Things I am considering is opening up the fishing tournament to multiple days, honor system with photos and tapes next to fish for close calls. We can think up any categories we like. This will allow guys to pick their days and go when it best fits their schedule. Maybe get more participation this way.

Funament Headquarters at Sandpiper cove. Many details yet to be ironed out, trailer parking, accommodations, etc.

Social: Of course the traditional banquet, considering adding an organized night out to dinner at a select restaurant so we can meet and greet.

Do we change the name of funament to Classic Mako Madness or something like that?

I am putting together ideas for fundraising. I am in the process of getting custom CM license plates made. I will be selling these as well as other things to raise money for the banquet. I am not much for going around and asking for donations. It sort of doesn't fit me too well so I need to find other ways to fund our fun. []

Can't the "funament" fishing tournament be a part of "classic mako madness week"[]

that way whoever heads it up can build on the foundation already laid down with sponsors etc..

a release optional tournament with photos for proof might be an option.

what date were you thinking about for the banquet?

While a fishing tourney, of some sort should be included as part of the planned activities, as it is THE reason to attend for some, I can easily go fishing (tourney or otherwise) without spending the $$'s it takes to get to Destin...

NUMBER ONE on my list is participating in group oriented social activities. Given the economy and the costs of simply getting there for many, keeping things relatively simple and inexpensive in order to be able to afford to participate in would also be a plus.

How about a scheduled afternoon for a Picnic/BBQ with some easy to participate in games both for adults and for those with younger families such as volleyball, bean bag toss, badmiton, croquet, wiffleball, horseshoes, etc.?

Like Leo suggested, I would leave funament in there some where, but we can just call it Mako Madness 20xx..

Now when you say Classic Mako license plates I assume you mean the one that you put on the front of you vehicle, but what about getting some of the ones that surround the rear license plate, I know some states make you put them on front and rear, like Texas, but dont know if many would be intrested in that...

I like this idea.Being that it is "scheduled" to be held at SPC,they have an outdoor pavillion on the beach.Maybe we just have it there with beach activities and cookout. The beach has a lot of area right there and it would be easy to have both food and games located right there.

I like the idea of fishing multiple days too.I think it's important to keep the tourney alive as it is the original reason for having this and it also appeals more to sponsors. If this is a wekk long event, then having multiple days and options on when to fish will make it easier and more participation.

Mako Madness is fine with me.I have no problem either keeping or tossing "funament".On the other hand,I do like tradition and "funament" is tradition.

Leo are you referring to the name meaning you would like the worrd Funament to stay?

The ideas posted so far are good ones, and I have thought about most of them already. A possiblity is to have the beach activities, lunch cook out blend into the banguet that evening. Lots of logistics to pull off. []

unless there is a reason we can't(conflict with ecmako? etc) I think keeping the funament name for the FISHING part of the gathering makes sense, in keeping with the spirit of the original organizer/s and also for recognition that it is an ongoing event i.e. 7th annual.[]

David, I think your biggest goal is to keep is simple. Try not to go too over-the-top. I would get as much information on the "goings on" around Destin that week. Remember the fireworks over the harbor following the Captains Call meeting this past year? I wish I had known. That would have been a great way to spend more time with other folks.

I like the car tag idea. I can tell you another item that I would buy several of would be koozies (huggies) the foam thing you put your beer in (everywhere I go, folks have different names for them)

Another idea I heard about was small stickers for each year you come (t-shirt design on them with the date). You could stick them on your windscreen kinda thing.

Yeah Allen I plan on a brochure of some kind that helps lay some of that stuff out. Inludes a simple map, etc. I have in mind one of those cartoon like brochures you see at beaches, etc that gives perspective on where things are and what may be going on. I think I recall seeing something like that in Destin and was going to try and hunt it down and take it from there, assuming I can pay for it!

As a newb 2 years ago I didn't even know what the 'pass' was or the 'point', let alone know where Sandpiper Cove was. Made it hard for me the get a good mental picture.

Lets keep it simple for the first year. I do like the idea of the fishing tournament. Leo and I will cook for any occasion. Also, we need to get a shopping trip up for the ladies. They have a big outlet strip mall in Destin.

You guys are coming up with some GREAT ideas!! I had one thought though. You said you are going to try yo have the "activities" a SPC.. Cool my thought is people like me that won't be staying at SPC still be able to dock up there to attend the festivities? No big deal just a thought. Look foward to it this year

That is a good idea... something we will want to ask.

                              Its on the list. Thanks

By the way, my stellar cullinary crew have put forth the suggestion to do a whole pig BBQ for the banquet. I think I am in on this one. []
