      • I am at a crossroads here on should I make the trip down, it's a long tow and I want to be able to fish. The wife and I are looking forward to getting out without the kids, we have the babysitter setup, boat is in it's best condition in years, the trailer completely worked over. But will there be fishing? I see the tide is going to be running out all day on Friday and Saturday so assuming the pass is kept open on outgoing tide we should be able to run out off the beach a few miles, but is there a bad odor? and what about an alternate and fishing in the bay? Is fishing in the bay a decent route? It's my first trip fishing in the gulf, it will be fun to see everyone but just as important to enjoy sometime fishing? I am looking for input, I assume the event is still on? I need to make a decision by Monday and get on the road Tuesday.

          • Quite honestly, fishing is a small portion of the fun in Destin. With that said, if the pass is closed the fishing in the bay is productive and fun.

            • Scott is right. The bay will give you plenty of fishing. Yep, the event is still on. I wouldn't count out going off shore either. The entire weekend is going to be fun!

Spent the day at Crab Island yesterday. As beautiful as ever. Sorry, no pics uploaded yet.

Talking to a few of the locals, the pass is closed on an incoming tide. No oil has been captured in the booms, but orders are to continue the rejime.

The locals say the Speck bite is phenominal this year with plenty of redfish in the mix.

                  • I was out fishing Saturday and Sunday morning with visits to Crab Island and Norriega Point in the afternoon. It was absolutely beautiful out. The Gulf was slick as glass both days. I didn't notice your boat out there Artie. I was on the East side of the island both days. It tends to be a little less crowded over there. I did walk over to the Helenback boat yesterday and watched the chicken fighting. Good times for sure.

                              • I hope you all have a great time. We are going to pass this year. I am having shoulder surgery the following week and really need to get cought up at work and I have no hydraulic steering at the moment so boat handling with a bad limb is not pretty. I am very dissapointed because I know if the oil spill hadn't occurred we would not have considered aborting. But with the uncertianty about the oil coupled with the later issues we have moved our vacation to Hilton Head later in the summer. I hope that next year this time there will be no question and we have another great event. Best wishes and post lots of pics to make me thoroughly jealous. dodge
