  • Lowrance HDS Gen 3 9inch

    Hello friends,

    I own Garmin GPS 540S.

I'm beginning to research new chart plotter. I like what I read regarding the HDS Gen 3 with Structure scan LSS2. Important features I want are touchscreen and keypad, CHIRP, down view, side view, and radar compatible. Also, Lowrance is discounting $400. Bundle price is $1399.00 for 9 inch.

I fish inshore and near shore reefs. Looking for some feedback on the Lowrance HDS Gen 3. Thanks
    Thanks, Mr. Happy

I have the Gen 2 Touch. It is now 5 years old. Love the unit. The 3 is supposed to be even better. I am shopping for one as well to replace an older 10" SH chart plotter. I like having two units.

      Hello

Thanks, I decided to go Simrad GO9 XSE. This includes the total scan transducer. It was either HDS Gen 3 or Simrad GO9, I like how the Simrad looks, it will be perfect for my Mako 232 application and fishing style.

          Hello again,

          Question for the group.

I have 97 232 with factory bracket. I'm going to install the "total scan" transducer.

Can I add directly under the bracket right above my main drain? It will be protected from obstructions and centered on bottom. Does the transducer need to be below the bottom edge?

Any suggestions on best location? Thanks again my friends.

          Jeff

I just attended an electronics seminar and sat in and listened to presentations from all the major players. I love this new Simrad stuff that keeps coming out. The GO XSE series are some pretty cool units. Same processor as the NSS EVO series. Lots of standard features. I should have a GO XSE coming for my boat for the Spring. Maybe a 7 or 9". I already have an NSS EVO 9 and love it. Super easy menu to use. Also adding the 4G radar this year. Garmin makes some neat units too, but for me, I like the Simrad displays. As far as unit being dis-continued, it seems like most of the manufactures, except Furuno as an example and maybe Sitex, tend to release new models every 3 or 4 years. Technology keeps changing and most people want the newest and greatest.

I really liked all the features of Simrad especially the 10 hz GPS speed. I will add radar next year too. They now make a 7" that accept radar. GO7 XSR. I'm installing this weekend just need to decide best location for the total scan ducer for my 232. Thanks.
